day 11-sept 11

We woke up from a very good sleep, got ready for the day. Took a shower that consisted of hot hot water. My experience in Thailand it is either really cold or really hot. Moms been able to find a happy medium. Mom contacted Elder Barlow so that we could keep some things there while we go back to Chiang Rai. We ate breakfast( French toast with honey, fried rice, pineapple, watermelon, and eggs. Some Vegis and mom tried the boiled rice(similar to cream of wheat). We checked out of our hotel and met up with Elder Barlow. Elder Barlow helped us know to take a red truck instead of a Tuktuk to our next destination. We hopped in our taxi and went up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It was about a 30 minute drive up the mountains. Up there we hike up 306 stairs to get to Doi Suthep Wat. We saw multiple statues of Buddha and gongs, we hit a really large one, about the size of a car. The view of Chiang Mai from up on the mountain top was amazing and breathtaking. We walked down to a meditation center and learned that they do retreats from 4 days to multiple weeks. We saw many monks and saw some young ones on their cell phones. We saw a young girl in tribal clothes who asked if we wanted a photo with her, she then said she does it for money. It was sad and I'd hope for her to play and live like a free young girl. We went up and down many many stairs and did half of it without shoes; we had taken them off to go into wats. Mom bought herself a wrap skirt and the lady helping her was trying to put it on mom over her backpack and everything, it was awesome to witness. There were multiple shops around. Our driver took us back to Chiang Mai, to the bus station. There we ate pork fried rice and Pringles. It was a good meal! We use the ATM for the first time, didn't know it was rocket science, but we figured it out eventually. My card didn't work so gratefully moms does.

We went to 7-11 to get some toiletries and treats and water. Then we hopped on our bus back to Chiang Rai for the week! Our bus driver was kinda like the trolley driver in the night bus in Harry Potter. He would honk at motorbikes and Cars to pass and talk loudly and laugh sometimes. It was really curvy road too so it totally felt like it!

We are really excited to work up in the Hill Tribes and live up there for the next few days. We've been really healthy so far, so keep us in your prayers to stay that way :) lots of love!!  We won't be able to have wifi up there so you'll here back from us Friday!
