day 8 - sept 8

We both slept really well last night. Yoga this morning was real nice. We had six of us and a dog. We did some good stretching and then Tina led us in a guided journey. Breakfast was yummy, rice, pork and green stuff, and watermelon.

Our work project today was moving sand out of the stream and putting it in buckets; we used a chain of people to pass the buckets. We made piles of sand, then we used the piles to fill street pot holes, and make cement. Previously a ditch was dug to prevent sewer problems. So sand was put in the bottom of the ditch, then they mixed cement with more sand and put the
cement over the leveled out sand. It's really neat to see how they are so resourceful and use whatever they can. When we were finished for today, there were several of our group that had a mud fight, I got a couple muddy handprints on her back. Then we took a group photo because we have two leaving tomorrow. We then headed for the showers. Didn't know that we could sweat so much. We decided we'd better do a batch of laundry and while we were waiting for it to finish we watched a couple of the local women bring all the food scraps from the day out to feed five huge pigs that are in a couple of pens close to the laundry area. They have a big bucket they mix the leftover food with some kind of grain. Then one of them mixes it up with her hand and arm almost to her shoulder, stirring quickly without spilling a drop. Then she gives it to the pigs a bucket at a time. We also watched as one took a long stick with a curved knife at the end and cut a few banana tree leaves off a tree. They use them to wrap food in, kind of like we would use ziplock bags. It's pretty amazing. Then off to dinner. We didn't have rice to our surprise. We had egg rolls, potatoes, and some noodle dish. We also had fruit, papaya, I think cantaloupe, and a mix between a grapefruit and an orange. We love the food here.

This is Sarah (New York) we ask her to take photos of us, and she starts with selfies! We love Sarah.

We decided to go in to Chang Rai for a couple of hours so we could get a massage after a day of hard work. Mom got a Fanny pack and a shirt also. We wanted to get the full body massages: we've heard great things about them. They were very busy since it was a Friday night. So the first 30 minutes was a foot and calf massage, then the next 30 minutes was the full body part. My masseuse was unreal.
He would find the stress parts of my feet, shoulders, and neck and really stretched my whole body. That's how Thai massages are usually, they twist you and put their feet and knees in your back while pulling arms to stretch. It was pretty neat. Moms masseuse wasn't as into it today. We'll have to find and try more places, (darn 🤣). We came back and fell asleep pretty quickly. It truly is amazing how beautiful it is and how much unity you can have with a group of people when working with them. We tried fried centepede tonight, Christina bought some. She ate them as a snack. They just tasted crunchy and salty, no other real flavor.
