day 16-sept 16
Last day at the Mirror Foundation! We woke up around 6:20 to go do yoga with Sarah and Tina. It felt really nice! After yoga we packed most of our things, completed getting our laundry in, it's so moist in Thailand that drying takes a while, especially during the night. We ate some yummy breakfast. Rice and stuff.. we, along with a couple of other people, got certificates for volunteering and we were given clay whistle necklaces that are made from hill tribe women. We got ready to work one more time. The weather thought different and we ended us not working, so we had time to rest, pack more, clean, plan, etc... we ate lunch of Spring Rolls!! Then we went into the volunteer office and put our handprints and names on the wall. We hopped in the truck, for the last time and headed into Chiang Rai. We sang with our group and Mom had tears during this part.
We got to Chiang Rai and has a couple of hours before our bus to Chiang Mai. We went and bought a large duffle bag, then went and got some ice cream so that we could use their wifi to plan. We wanted two scoops of ice cream, but the menu said one scoop. When we asked for two, the lady said "no." We told her we can pay for two and she repeated "no." So we only had one. But we did get free wifi and a nice toilet to use. We both knocked over the toilet paper holder and it was so loud, but don't know if anyone else heard it. We went back and hopped on the bus. The whole time it was raining like mad. It definitely is rainy season here. We did cover up our packs with our bright orange rain flaps.
The bus ride was about 3 hours long, lots of rain!! And relaxing and beautiful. Sarah (Canada) hopped on with us too. Once we arrived in Chiang Mai, we got a tuktuk and went to our first ever hostel stay. It's called Hostel By Bed. Our driver struggled finding it, but we got here eventually. We walked in and wow, it's a beautiful place. Our stay is $18 a night. We have free breakfast, water, and toilet paper!! And paper towels, haven't seen those in a long time. The hostesses are so kind and helpful, they moved us so we had a lower bed right near the restroom.after getting settled in, we met up with Sarah and went to get some chow. We walked along the canal. Ate at a place called Jon something.. ha and then went and found some sticky rice that was larger than large and out of this world. It was a really great day full of lots of different emotions and a ton of gratitude.
