day 12- sept 12
We woke up this morning and had our yummy breakfast, rice and stuff. We got our stuff for our home stay this week. Home stay is when you go into a village and work with the people to better their lives. We have the opportunity to go to the Golden Triangle. It's the border of Thailand 🇹ðŸ‡, Laos 🇱🇦, and Myanmar 🇲🇲. The drive up went pretty well, we ran into Pitch at a gas station which was pretty crazy. We stopped for food for our stay and snacks, we were on the road driving north for about 2 hours. Upon arrival, we cleaned where we are going to stay. It is a dormitory for orphans. The village we are staying in is the first village in Thailand. It is called the elephant/snake mountain. It is an Ahka tribe village. We take cold bucket showers and use squatty potties. It's pretty comfy actually. We had to learn how to go number 2 in them though because if you don't slide up far enough, your poop goes off the back of the potty....We've heard ;)
After cleaning we set up our sleeping quarters and went out to work. Mon cut up food for dinner, and we dug and fixed some dirt to have a gradual slope and planted herbs and pineapple! It was pretty neat.
P-Akong was making dinner in a kitchen that didn't have very many supplies, he rocked it and made it happen by cooking over a fire. He made us pork and rice and eggs and we had watermelon. It's amazing what these people do. I went off exploring and reading for a bit, found a Christian cemetery up here which is really cool. Mom played games with some people during that time. Psychology and leg/ hand slap game. We ate dinner. First time I had ketchup and soy sauce for a while.
After dinner we down to a local shop, black magic, two truths and a lie, and snaps. Then we headed back up and cleaned up from the day. It felt so good to shower! The stars are amazing here. It is still beyond words.
